Eric L. Riffer

Senior Managing Director

Eric Riffer is a senior restructuring and turnaround professional with over twenty-five years of diverse experience ranging from interim crisis management, bankruptcy, and corporate workouts to credit evaluation, mergers & acquisitions, and investment banking.

Mr. Riffer has successfully worked with both debtors and creditors in the middle market and in the Fortune 500, in many industries including food service, manufacturing, distribution, energy, retail, automotive, printing, professional services, medical device sales, gaming, biotechnology, real estate, nonprofit, technology, construction, metal fabrication, and banking.

Mr. Riffer worked in the Wall Street arena for almost twenty years focusing on corporate credit, capital markets and investment origination. During his time, he worked with companies and their management teams to improve overall corporate risk, capital structure, finance operations and communications with global institutional investors. In 2012, Mr. Riffer moved into the turnaround and restructuring industry and has held senior executive roles, including interim positions as CEO, President, CRO, CFO and COO. He has advised companies through both Chapter 11 and Subchapter V bankruptcies.

Representative assignments and experience include:

  • CRO and interim COO of a construction company. Prepared and executed the Chapter 11 bankruptcy Successfully worked with secured lenders, vendors, and creditors to successfully reorganize the business and exit with a confirmed reorganization plan. Became the interim COO post confirmation and successfully paid all secured creditors of the plan.
  • CRO and interim CFO of a multi-state water distribution and delivery operation. Brought in to manage the leveraged capital structure, moved into preparing and executing the chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and exit, successfully worked with secured lenders, unsecured creditors, and vendors, and finally helped to successfully execute a sale of the company to a strategic
  • Financial Advisor to renewable energy company that was able to obtain United States Department of Energy grants to produce biodiesel as well as nutraceuticals. Advised the company so that they could purchase land and build a state-of-the-art harvesting
  • Interim CFO of a multi-state trucking company. Managed all aspects of the business including the purchase and financing of all trucks, helped expand into several new
  • Financial Advisor to a private equity firm on a purchase of a food service operation. Coordinated due diligence including reviewing the financial and operational strength of the company, current customer base and future operational projections.
  • COO of a medical device start-up company, leading a cross-functional team that was tasked with opening five de novo stores in four states within five months. Negotiated and addressed the construction, legal, licensing, and leasing contracts for each location. Also advised on all hiring of employees for each location.
  • Financial Advisor to a wireless speaker company and facilitated their entry into Apple stores. Helped raise capital so they could expand their manufacturing footprint
  • As Financial Advisor, helped the management team of a $1 billion plus commercial real estate investment firm expand into new markets.
  • Financial Advisor to a $1 billion gaming technology company that wanted to expand operations into several states due to changes in gaming law. Created a corporate finance division that allowed customers to purchase gaming equipment on

Mr. Riffer obtained his Bachelor of Science and a Master’s in Business Administration degree from the University of Tennessee. He was recruited by UT out of high school and given a full athletic scholarship in football where he was a member of two SEC Championship teams. He previously held Security and Exchange commission series 7 and 63 licenses and has passed CFA level I and II exams.
